President Trump is basking in the Sunshine State, emerging from a neck-and-neck battle to win Florida, according to Fox News.
The victory nets the incumbent 29 of the 270 electoral votes he needs to stay in the White House.
Trump’s defenses held strong in a battleground state he captured in the 2016 race and adopted as his new home late last year, despite a stiff challenge from Democratic hopeful Joe Biden.
While Biden entered Election Day slightly ahead in Florida, according to RealClearPolitics’ average of polls, the margin was less than one percentage point, and the perennially purple state was seen as a true toss-up.
That prognostication came to fruition on Election Day with a back-and-forth battle that saw Biden and Trump trade the lead as votes were tallied.
Trump’s camp had predicted earlier this week that he would again come out on top in the Sun Belt state.
Florida broke for Trump in 2016, as part of a dominant showing throughout the battleground states to upset Democratic challenger Hillary Clinton.
