THE PRESIDENTIAL general election debates will mark the first time – at least since the coronavirus hit the U.S. – that President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden meet in person and square off in the final weeks of the contentious 2020 campaign.
Trump and Biden will face off in three presidential debates sponsored by the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates, which has been running general election debates since 1987. Vice President Mike Pence and Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris will also participate in one vice presidential debate.
The ongoing pandemic, however, has shaken up the typical framework of debates and forced officials to take extra health measures. Cleveland Clinic, which will co-host the first presidential debate, will serve as the debate commission’s health security adviser for all four debates.
